about

Piece for 3 electric guitars, and 1 electric bass guitar.
Written and recorded in early 2022 in Pittsburgh, PA.

"Accent Wall delivers its seventh “guitar-based” effort in as many years with Guitar Quartet No. 2. Has an evolution occurred? Is progress notable? Advancement in what sense? Perhaps the best contrast would be to stack the raw minimalism of Quartet No. 1 against the more labored tinkering of the more specifically labeled Guitar Quartet No. 2.

Numerical progress? Yes, the number 2 follows the number 1. But is an aural adjustment of noise a progression, regression, or retrogression? Is the absence of noise cleanliness or quiet? If one end of the axis represents the absence of sound and one end represents clarity, where does noise fall on the spectrum? Is it in fact its own spectrum? Can quiet noise occur in music? For that matter: can clear noise exist? Several graphs and charts were constructed in order to probe these questions, but they were promptly disposed of after few conclusions were reached.

Yet still more concerns remain: why must the human mind constantly measure the new to what came before? And why is the return to a former state immediately suspected as less desirable? These questions will not be answered here. All that can be promised is a complete re-evaluation of Accent Wall’s approach in the following year."
